The Disappearance of M

The Earth is gray and black. Cut across its crust is a deep gash, the wound left by an alien weapon. Our atmosphere and oceans have been annihilated. The mountains lie silent in the windless void. Empty and timeless cities, streets buried in ash, slowly crumbling. Only in the depths of the wound itself can hints of green and blue be decried. This dark fissure was the planet's lowest point, and so it was the place where the last of our water and air congregated: a paltry cradle for the remnants of our shattered civilization. Prior to M's disappearance, we had some hope that we might become a civilization again. Now, we are lost and alone.
